The Inn

A quiet camp on a living river.

Khwai sits on the north-eastern edge of the Okavango — a community concession between Moremi Game Reserve and the road toward Savuti and Chobe. There is year-round water. That means game all year: elephant, buffalo, red lechwe, wild dog, leopard in the riverine trees, and prides that hunt the floodplain.

We keep the camp small on purpose. Shaded sites under camelthorn and leadwood. Hot showers. A fire that is lit before sundown. Guides from the village. Nothing between you and the river but grass and the sound of the night.

Stay

Tents, trees, and the river.

Bring your own safari tent, or take one of our furnished meru-style canvas rooms. Every site is spaced for quiet. Ablutions are shared but private. Wood, water, and a braai stand come with the ground.

Because this is a community concession, night drives and walking safaris are allowed — activities you cannot do inside Moremi itself. Water levels permitting, we pole the side channels by mokoro.

Morning and late-afternoon drives across floodplain, mopane, and riverine woodland. After dinner, a spotlight for genet, honey badger, and the night shift.

Glide the papyrus edges when the flood is in. Hippo, jacana, malachite kingfisher, and the hush that only a dugout makes.

Guided walks from camp. An afternoon in Khwai village — the Bukakhwe community that owns this land and chose tourism over hunting.

Place

Between Moremi and the road to Savuti.

Self-drive from Maun via the Moremi north gate, or fly into Khwai airstrip and we collect you. Roads are sandy; a high-clearance 4×4 is essential in the wet months. There is no park entrance fee for the concession itself.
